Caribbean Metocean Statistics (CARIMOS)
|
Caribbean Metocean Statistics (CARIMOS) consists of a set of wind and wave hindcast data and extra-tropical storm data,
with a description of regional climatology - it's the most comprehensive meteorological and oceanographic set of data for the
Caribbean that meets offshore engineering requirements. It was developed by Fugro GEOS and
Oceanweather Inc, who have both drawn
on 20 years experience in pioneering state-of-the-art metocean studies to produce engineering descriptions of the environment.
CARIMOS includes:
- a summary of existing ocean current data.
- Time series of wind, wave, surge height and vertically-averaged surge currents.
- Return period extremes for wind speed, waves (significant, maximum and crest height), associated period, surge height and integrated surge current speed.
- Fatigue and operability data expressed in monthly and annual frequency of occurrence tables of wind speed by wind direction; wave height by wave period and direction and exceedance/non-exceedance duration statistics for wind speed and wave height.
- A summary report including climatology and physical oceanography. CARIMOS results are licensed for specified offshore blocks, or coastal areas.
CARIMOS applies:
- Accurate wind field specification methods
- A highly calibrated third generation wave hindcast model.
- A proven hydrodynamic model
- Hindcasting of all significant cyclones from 1930 to 1996 for estimates of extremes.
- Hindcasting of 15 continuous years (1980-1994) for estimates of normal conditions
