Gulf Lower Layer (GULL) current measurement project
|
The Gulf Lower Layer (GULL) current measurement project was a year-long deepwater current monitoring project in the Gulf
of Mexico initiated by Fugro GEOS in August 2000 to characterise large-scale, deepwater currents.
GULL included:
- 19 moorings positioned in five groups over 300km of seabed in the central Gulf of Mexico.
- Each mooring comprised two Aanderaa recording current meters. These were located at 100m and 300m above the seabed.
- Current speed and direction, water temperature and salinity data were recorded at 30-minute intervals.
- Data are available for a period from 31 August 2000 until 15 November 2001.
