SPM/CALM Buoy Monitoring Systems
|
The Single Point Monitoring system (SPM) is specifically designed to monitor dominant metocean conditions experienced at CALM (Cantenary Anchor Leg Mooring) Buoys, which operate in hazardous areas with low power and low maintenance requirements.
This monitoring system whilst integrated into the CALM Buoy is able to provide accurate metocean measurements in support of marine operations. The system comprises of various sensors providing the following measurements:
- Wave height & period
- Current speed and direction
- Wind speed and direction
- Mooring hawser tension
- Buoy heave, pitch and roll
Data is collected, processed and then transmitted at regular intervals to portable receivers onboard loading tankers and vessels. This information assists pilots when approaching the buoy and helps them to make critical operational decisions.
